We want to update you on an important development regarding the future of the Runaway Bay Junior Leagues Club (Leagues Club).
The Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) has notified that it will NOT renew the Head Lease on its expiry at 30 June 2027 which means that the Sublease to the Leagues Club will be terminated.
The Leagues Club have been notified by GCCC that by 30 June 2027 it must “vacate the site … and remove any assets, infrastructure, equipment, improvements (where required), and personal property” which is now less than 10 months.
Council has commenced a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) process for the future operation of the Runaway Bay Rugby League Facility at 225 Morala Avenue. This will be open to the public so the Leagues Club will now be competing with other proponents to maintain its legacy in Runaway Bay and its right to retain occupation of the Club premises.
Your Board is preparing a strong submission seeking to secure the Club’s future at the facility. We will need your support.
Our submission will highlight the League Club’s 44-year history, 9,500 members, strong financial position, professional governance and long-standing commitment to rugby league and the Runaway Bay community.
We are also putting forward a long-term vision for the Runaway Bay Rugby League Precinct, including improved facilities, potential new amenities and canteen facilities, Club renovations, stronger junior, senior, female and Masters rugby league pathways, and greater opportunities for members and the broader community including our RSL Sub-branch.

A Club with 9,500 members and 44 years of community history should have a strong voice.
